Pinterest is an online bulletin board concept where users create a profile for free and “pin” images or blog posts to their “boards” to refer to at a later time. The Spectacular Houzz.com

This week we can’t seem to get off Houzz.com, a user friendly website for professionals and homeowners that contains uploaded images of interior and exterior spaces, where to find the items and the contractor behind the beautiful space. This site is beneficial for professionals in the remodeling industry because it allows them to create a profile to display their previous project accomplishments. It’s also perfect for homeowners seeking a remodel expert or home decorating enthusiasts, who can view the multiple contractors profiles and select a professional that meets their needs.

Houzz.com is centered around their vast and organized selection of photo galleries that help people gain inspiration quickly. Users then create personal “ideabooks” to store their favorite interior & exterior spaces, contractors, information, and helpful hints. We love that Houzz.com offers the ability to share photographs and information from the website with friends through social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

What is Houzz?

Founders Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen created the site in 2009 after having difficulty communicating their design wants and needs to a remodel expert. They, like many home owners, found the process of looking for inspiration through magazines exhausting and frustrating; in response to their experience they created Houzz.com to help facilitate the home building, remodeling and decorating process allowing homeowners to spend more time enjoy the exciting process of creating a home.

In just three years, the site has gained unbelievable exposure, showcasing the work of more than 65,000 design professionals and containing more than 400,000 photographs organized to allow viewers to easily find the style that suits their needs. The site also accommodates on-the-go users with their 5-star rated iPad App that has received great reviews. Recently the New York Times release an article on the company as well as CNN who claims the site is the “Wikipedia of interior and exterior design”.

Renewal Remodels & Additions on Houzz

If you are currently in the process of remodeling or adding an addition to your home try utilizing this site. While you’re at it, check out our profile! Our profile displays all our projects in the Puget Sound area in organized ideabooks to help you find the style that best suits your tastes.

For many of us in the Pacific Northwest, installing air conditioning does not always make sense since it would only see use during the summer. However, if you are remodeling your home, there are techniques that reduces the need for air conditioning during those hot, humid summer days.

1. Windows

Replace old windows with new, more efficient ones. Dual pane, Low E glass windows keep summer heat out and cool air in. As an added plus, these windows also keep cold winter out of your home and warm air in during the cold seasons. They also provide UV protection for your interior to prevent sun damage and discoloration. Renewal offers high quality windows with energy efficiency, low maintenance, durability, lifetime warranties, and award winning performance.

2. Fans

While regular fans are an option, ceiling fans tend to be the best for consistent airflow throughout your rooms. They can also add to your décor and you will not have to worry about storing them during the cooler seasons of the year.

3. Natural Ventilation

If you do decide to install an air conditioning system, ductless split systems save energy by localizing temperature control in your home. You can control what rooms are cooled and to what degree. These work well for home additions, as alternatives to ducts.
